I’m a bit apprehensive about wearing red leggings. They’re just too bold for my taste. It’s as if I’m trying too hard to get people’s attention. But I still see so many girls and young women sporting this trend and they actually look fantastic. So why can’t I do the same thing? Maybe it’s all about the having tons of chutzpah to go with it and knowing how to successfully orchestrate your clothes to achieve that effortless fashion statement.
I’ve got a couple of leggings in safe neutral colors and I finally found the courage to wear colored leggings when I’ve noticed I’ve missed out so much on other great ways to look fierce and fabulous because I refuse to be receptive on wearing colored tights. Having red leggings has proven to be a good investment for me because they help me to diversify my outfits in almost any season. You can wear it without looking too provocative or like you’re trying too hard as long they’re worn right.
Here are some tried and tested tips I want to share with you to make those red leggings and tights a year-round staple that never goes out of style:
- Since bright red leggings are too flashy, they won’t quite mesh well with colorful tops with huge prints. Tone down the color of the rest of your outfit to highlight the red leggings. Neutral colored tops are a good match with red leggings.
- Black is the ideal color for the top and footwear but you can be adventurous and try out different colors that will go well with it.
- For plus size women, ditch the bright red ones and opt for plum colors instead. Plum shades are pretty much like black, it can give a slimming effect on your legs. Just remember, the thicker the legs, the darker the leggings should be.
- Red leggings are best paired with long, oversized shirts, tunics, short dresses and miniskirts. Just play around with what you have and find out what works best with your body.
- Wearing red leggings with the same color as your dress is a big NO-NO. And this rule applies to other colored tights and leggings.
- They can also be worn during winter. Many people associate red as an autumn or winter color. In fact, red can be used all year round!
- You can jazz up your accessories with a touch of red. Minute details like red nail polish, bright red lipstick or small red headband can add a little drama to your outfit.
- When you’re confused between having matte or glossy red leggings, I say buy both. Matte gives a slimming look while the glossy ones look elegant.
- For casual days, you can also try to match it with navy short and pinstripe blazer.
- If all else fails, take inspiration from Blair Waldorf, a character in Gossip Girl series who popularized the red tights that complements well with the rest of her preppy wardrobe. Maybe you would be able to get some ideas from her.
